The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development is to set up a seven-member sub-committee of the National Premix Fuel Committee to devise means to curtail premix diversion across the country.
The sector Minister, Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson, said this at a meeting with representatives of Oil Marketing Companies across Ghana to acquaint herself with them and to discuss pertinent issues relating to the distribution of premix fuel.
The meeting sought to allow the various Oil Marketing Companies to speak up on their challenges regarding the distribution of Premix fuel.
The seven-member team will consist of the Ministry of Fisheries, the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Oil Marketing Companies and the Bulk Distribution Company.
It was made known at the meeting that the slow pace of loading trucks at the Tema Oil Refinery, Coordinators and Agents scaling up the problem of fuel distribution, nature and form of premix allocation to OMCs as well as unbridled powers of individuals constituting the Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) which calls for critical look at the structure of the LBC are major concerns to the OMCs.
They also indicated that shortage of fuel characterized by the lack of storage facilities and improper calibration of tanks at the landing beaches are impeding their effective operations.
The seven-member independent body will be given the mandate to cross check the report of the Committee as they also access the tracking devices by the OMCs to be considered to congeal stringent monitoring of trucks.
Reaffirming her readiness to combat individuals who seek for their personal interest at the detriment of the Ministry regarding premix fuel, Mrs. Koomson said her Ministry is determined not to allow any individual to undermine her reputation and that of the Ministry.
The Administrator of the National Premix Fuel Secretariat, Nana Abrokwah Asare who highlighted some pertinent issues, encouraged all stakeholders in the Fisheries sector to discharge their duties with optimum diligence for the good of all.
