COVID-19 vaccines allocated to Northern Region due to expire on Friday

COVID-19 vaccines allocated to the Northern Region is due to expire in two days. As a precautionary measure, the directorate has decided to end the ongoing vaccination exercise by close of today (April 14, 2021).

About one thousand five hundred (1500) doses are left, but the directorate is hoping to exhaust this to avoid wastage.

According to the Regional Health Directorate, the Food and Drugs Authority has advised that they stop administering the vaccine on April 16, which is just two days away.

The Regional Director of Public Health, Hilarius Abiwu, explained that the AstraZaneca vaccines were manufactured on October 16 2020 and are expected to last for six months.

About twenty-two thousand persons including health workers have so far received the vaccine.
