The national Measles-Rubella vaccination and Vitamin A supplement campaign to improve the general health and survival of Ghanaian children ends today.
The exercise was aimed at ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being of people of all ages to help reduce the number of measles-rubella cases in the country.
The Programme Manager, Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr George Bonsu, said available data indicates that measles kill almost 90,000 people globally each year and it is a leading cause of death in Children under five years.
He charged parents who are yet to send their children for the vaccination and vitamin A Supplement immunisation to do so as the exercise ends today.
Speaking to GBC’s Agartha Asamoah, Dr. Bonsu, said so far the turnout has been encouraging with no serious problems recorded.
Dr. Bonsu explained that the disease is deadly and therefore it is necessary for every child to be vaccinated.
