The Consulate General of Ghana in Dubai has cautioned Ghanaians in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, on the trafficking of marijuana into the country.
A statement signed by the Consular Officer said it has received information about some arrests of persons at the Dubai International Airport attempting to traffic marijuana into the UAE.
It said five arrests were made between January and March this year. The statement said parcels containing marijuana were given to those arrested by agents in Ghana to be given to their counterpart agents in the UAE on arrival.
It said one of the five arrested has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment and therefore advised all travelers from Ghana to Dubai to avoid taking parcels from agents unless they can inspect and ascertain the true contents of the parcel.
