The University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani in the Bono region, and the Bochum(boham) University of Applied Sciences based in Germany, have signed a memorandum of understanding for a project termed ‘Mobility sustainability thought through the life cycle.’ It is geared towards achieving sustainable renewable energy production in Ghana.
Under the agreement, the University of Energy and Natural Resources – UENR – will ensure the piloting of the ‘Mobility sustainability thought through the life cycle’ project, and the gauging of its sustainability level.
A workshop to firm up the processes involved in actualizing the project was partially virtual, with representatives of the Bochum University in Germany joining the discussions via zoom.
The Ghanaian participants included the Bono Regional Minister, Miss Justina Owusu Banahene, the academic board of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, and the students.
It was to equip stakeholders in the energy sector with skills in the use of solar energy. The underlying objective is to promote clean energy use in the country.
In a presentation, a researcher with the MONAL project, Mr. Fred Agyei explained that the project sought to provide a cleaner alternative to the traditional fossil fuel used by vehicles.
The team is working to ensure that vehicles use solar energy, which is more environmentally friendly and less expensive.
Earlier, in an address, the Bono Regional Minister, Miss Justina Owusu Bannahene, hailed the initiative and pledged government’s support towards it. She cited the Navrongo solar power plant, the five pilot mini grid systems at Sene in the Bono East Region, and the installation of solar panels at the Jubilee House as evidence of government’s commitment to the renewable energy agenda.
