The Ghanaian Times commends the Ministry of Information and the National Media Commission for the establishment of the office for the coordinated mechanism for the safety of Journalists in the country. The Paper says this gives credence to the fact that government appreciates the work of Journalists and need to protect them to discharge their duties to get justice should they suffer any breach in the line of duty. The Times hopes the office will serve as a warning to organizations and individuals who would entertain any instincts to harm journalists especially in the line of duty. While commending the initiators, the Paper appeals to Journalists to be responsible and avoid infringing on the rights of others, especially by defaming them which can prompt retaliation. The Paper says there must be regional offices overseeing the safety of journalists to avoid the situation where every case must be dealt with in Accra with all the inconveniences.
The Daily Graphic decries the neglect of the Saglemi Housing Project especially when most Ghanaians are in dire need of accommodation. The paper says the political tussle that has characterized the affordable housing policies for about two decades is to blame for the country’s housing deficit. It is against this background that the Graphic welcomes government’s attempt to resolve issues stalling the Saglemi project for its successful completion.
