The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), one of the two Transport groups that is in negotiation with government over the determination of the percentage increase in transport fares has denied knowledge of some groups claiming to have increased transport fares by 20 per cent effective Monday, May 17.
According to the Head of Communications of GPRTU, Abass Imoro, the groups, led by the Ghana Committed Drivers Association, Truth Drivers Union and purporting to be under the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), are led by unknown persons.
Mr. Imoro said these groups cannot dictate the percentage increase in transport fares when the GPRTU and the GRTCC are yet to conclude negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Committed Drivers Association, Charles Danso, has been justifying the 20 percent increase in transport fares which took effect today.
“We have the liberty to also increase our fares.”
