The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), today (October 25), stormed a Chinese electrical warehouse on the mortuary road in Accra to seize tonnes of substandard electrical products.
A tour of the facility revealed that some of the products have been imported, while others are produced and packaged in the warehouse without any recourse to approved standards.
The products, some of which may already be on the market include cables, extension cables, high tension, flexible cables, flood lights, led panel lights and switch sockets. It was also revealed that instead of copper wire for high tension cables, aluminium was used.
The Director General of the Authority, Prof. Alex Dodoo who led the team said this cannot be tolerated and ordered the immediate arrest of two of the Chinese nationals.
The two Chinese nationals who gave their names as Chen, aged 48 and Lunyou aged 30 are currently being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
