The Paramount Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area, Zugraan Naaba Abugrago Asigri Azorka, has commended President Akufo-Addo for his role in maintaining peace in Bawku and its environs.
The Paramount Chief said this when President Akufo Addo paid a courtesy call on him at his Palace as part of a day’s working visit to the Upper East Region.
He commended Government for speeding up the construction of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom Road, other road projects and construction of bridges in the region.
He, however, appealed for means of transport to facilitate the work of the Bawku Inter Ethnic Peace Committee to sustain the peace in the region.
The Paramount Chief of Bawku, Zugraan Naaba Abugrago Asigri Azorka, who spoke through his spokesperson, Patrick Akurugu, appealed to the president to construct a district hospital in Garu, Tempane, Bawku and Pusiga.
This, according to him, will go a long way to bring qualified healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of the people.
The Paramount chief also appealed to the president to create a new district out of the Bawku West district and the Bawku Municipality.
In his response, President Akufo Addo however said his government was not pleased with the votes they obtained in the just ended general election in the region.
He said with the numerous projects his outfit executed within four years his expectation was to win more than one seat in the region.
He called on the people in the Bawku Municipality and the region to rally strongly behind his government for more developmental projects.
The next point of call for the president and his entourage was at the palace of the regent of the Mamprusis in Bawku.
The regent of the Mamprusis, Alhaji Ibrahim Adam Zangbego, who spoke through a Council of State Member, Alhaji Sule Yerimiah, appealed to President Akufo Addo to provide the people in Bawku central constituency with a befitting district hospital and a Senior High School in the Bawku Township.
President Akufo Addo in his response commended the Mamprusis in the Bawku Central constituency for supporting his government over the years.
He said efforts are being made to give the Bawku Township roads a facelift.
President Akufo Addo and his entourage have since rounded off their tour with an inauguration of a newly constructed district assembly block in Zuarungu, capital of the Bolgatanga East District of the upper east region.
