Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah insists that no Delta variant of Covid-19 has been detected in Ghanaian communities.
He however said six cases of Delta variant detected from samples taken at the Kotoka International Airport between April and June, this year at the ports of entry have been put under mandatory isolation as contained in the Ghana Health Service statement.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah stressed that AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines are potent against the new Delta variant of the novel coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service Dr. Franklin AsieduBekoe has refuted claims that the Astrazeneca vaccines administered in Ghana are not effective against the Indian variant of covid-19.
Dr. Asiedu Bekoe in an interview with GBC NEW’s Nathaniel Nartey advised Ghanaians to remain calm about the claims.
Dr.Asiedu Bekoe commented on the World Bank’s directive that Ghana will not be allowed to purchase Sputnik-V vaccines using financial assistance it provides.
