There is a scary development at Salakorpe in the Ketu South municipality where the Sea is causing more havoc to fisher folks and the highway.
Salakorpe and Amutsinu communities have been under sea attack for some time now following the completion of Blekusu Sea Defence Project (Phase One) a few months ago.
Since the beginning of this year alone, more than half of the land of these communities have gone into the sea leaving remaining areas as a ‘no-go area’.
The sea has also taken fishing nets, canoes and other belongings away and destroyed hundreds of homes, properties and rendered hundreds of families homeless.
At about 3pm local time on Sunday, 27th June, 2021 the waves from the sea had moved further into the lagoon creating more disaster for the same victims who are doing tilapia farming and salt mining for sustenance.
A community Youth Leader at Agavedzi, Francis Atitsogbui in the video below explained how the sea was destroying the highway. According to him, during afternoon times, the sea produces heavy waves targeted at landing properties.
Few weeks ago, our reporter who visited Salakorpe and other communities, reported that, the Atlantic Ocean in that part of the country has moved so fast and too close to the main road, and with 25 metres away, the sea will destroy it into the Ketu South portion of the Keta Lagoon Complex.
The sector Minister in responding to a Parliamentary question asked by the MP for the area, disclosed that, Government is working to commence phase two of the project, covering Salakorpe, Amutsinu, Adina and other areas.
The Minister also led by the Regional Minister, The MP, The MCE and area chiefs visited the place to ascertain the full facts on the ground and sympathized with the people especially the victims.
