The response by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Attah, to a question posed by MP for North Tongu, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa on the cost of recent travels by the President, has generated public debate with some Political Science and Security Analysts divided on the matter.
Mr. Ofori Attah told Parliament that any query about the cost involved in flying the President to South Africa, France and Belgium, are issues of national security hence his inability to provide answers.
Reacting to this, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. George Asekere, described Mr. Ofori-Attah’s responses as disrespectful to Ghanaians and wondered why he asked for time only to tell Parliament that he cannot answer.
He said Ghanaians should expect a predictable response from the National Security Minister.
A Security Analyst, David Agbee, thinks such a question falls within the ambit of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
Meanwhile, Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa, agrees with the Minister of Finance that issues about the President’s travels are issues of national security. He however cautioned against discussing such matters in public due to its implications.
