The Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers has appealed to the government to subsidize the cost of poultry feed to help farmers increase the production of birds in the country to meet growing local demand.
President of the Greater Accra Regional Association of Poultry Farmers, Madam Gifty Rodor said such a move will empower poultry farmers to be able to produce sufficient birds to compete effectively with imported poultry in pricing.
She asked that government considers the farmers in decision making.
They also called on the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to expedite action by setting up a poultry advisory council.
The association believes the council when created will help to oversee the operations of the industry, documentations on its establishment, to oversee the welfare of the local poultry industry and also help build the capacity of players.
