President Akufo-Addo rewards Samuel Takyi with $30,000 and car

President Akufo-Addo has announced a $5,000 each for the Ghana contingent to the Tokyo Olympics.

Samuel Takyi who won the bronze medal for the country will receive a car, $10,000, and $20,000 in career development fund.

The package was announced when the Ghana Olympics Committee and the medalist, led by the Minister of Youth and Sports called on President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

The courtesy call was to present the medal won at the Olympics to President Akufo-Addo.

This is the first medal to be won by the nation in 29 years. It is also the first time in 49 years Ghana won a medal in boxing.

The President commended the entire team for the successes chalked up.

President Akufo-Addo said his government is committed in promoting sports in schools. As Ghana prepares to host the All Africa games in 2023, the President pledged to provide the requisite infrastructure.

With the 2022 Commonwealth Games on sight, the President tasked the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure the team improved on their performance.
