Paracetamol shortage hits Tamale

Paracetamol shortage has hit the Lahagu CHPS Compound in the Tamale Metropolis.

The development has created distrust among residents of the community, who now seek medical attention outside the community.

Sources at the facility say the shortage has persisted for more than a year despite numerous requests. They also say the paracetamol shortage is just one of the many challenges confronting the CHPS Compounds in the Metropolis.

These came to light at a public forum that assessed the State of Health Care in the Metropolis.

Residents say they have lost faith in the facility to provide them healthcare and have resorted to some secondary facilities within the Metropolis.

On the question of procedures to follow to purchase the drugs, and why should it take so long to stock the CHPS compound with the basic drug paracetamol, the Health Management Team said they have followed the necessary processes to get paracetamol to the CHIPS Compounds and assurances have been given, that the shortage of the medicine would be addressed.

Besides, the medicine other challenges confronting the Lahagu CHPS Compound, includes access to water and the availability of staff bungalows to accommodate health workers to who manage the facilities at night.
