The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan has been adjudged the Most People Focused Chief Executive Officer, CEO of the Year.
The Award was conferred on him at the Human Resource Excellence Awards in Accra.
An accompanying citation described him as an exceptional people management and authentic leader, whose leadership skills has resulted in a new GBC Corporate brand with a highly motivated skilled workforce.
The citation also said Professor Amin Alhassan’s leadership has also led to an improvement in the Corporation’s financial performance outcomes. The citation also described the Director General’s HR / People Management Strategy, as phenomenal, linked to Corporate branding, with the example of re-branding GBC’s Prime Program Breakfast Show, now GTV Breakfast.
It said owing to this, the State Broadcaster has made good its constitutional responsibility of being impartial, fair and objective in content generation and information dissemination. On his impressions about the Award, Professor Amin-Alhassan said the Award is a manifestation of what Team GBC can do and stands for, in the media industry in Ghana and Africa.
“The award is a testament to the fact that GBC is rising to gain its rightful place as the leading media organization in Ghana and an African example. This is not about me. It is about Team GBC,’’ he stated.
Professor Amin Alhassan’s Award was presented to him by the Minister of Public Enterprises, Joseph Cudjoe, who said HR practice the World over has changed due to COVID-19 and this required that practitioners embrace technology entirely in order to stay in business.
The Human Resource Excellence Awards ceremony climaxed a two-day Human Resource leaders conference. It is focused on how HR Practitioners in public and private institutions can adapt to the new normal at the workplace in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The awards ceremony was organized by Alica Consulting Limited, a capacity building firm that provides leadership development, human resource corporate training and recruitment services for corporate organizations.
Prof. Amin Alhassan is a Development Communication Expert. He previously worked with GBC Radio News, and the Ghana News Agency after graduating from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He has Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Communication Studies from Tampere University in Finland and Concordia University in Montreal. In August 2019, the National Media Commission (NMC) in consultation with President Akufo-Addo appointed Professor Amin Alhassan as Director-General for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).
