Traders at the Kumasi City Market Limited popularly referred to as Kejetia market, have resolved not to pay any tolls or other financial obligation to the Assembly, management or GRA for the next one week.
The traders who have hoisted red bands at their shops and stalls are doing so to press home their demand for management of the facility to speed up its contract agreement with Clou Global Technology Limited, to ensure individual electricity meters are given to them.
President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Akwasi Prempeh who explained the action of the traders said Management of the Kejetia Market agreed that they could secure individual electricity meters, but there seem to be some issues.
‘’We are giving management up to a week, after that we can take further action’’, stated Nana Akwasi Prempeh, President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders.
Leadership of the Kejetia Market Association sometime back gave Management and Board of Directors of the new Kejetia market two weeks to resolve the concerns faced by the traders.
The traders complained that since occupying the market spaces early 2020, they have been charged exorbitant electricity bills without any justification.
The traders also said, since occupying the shops, there had been flooding which they feared might destroy their shops and goods.
