Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on the Regional Security Councils to take over in the fight against illegal mining in the country.
He said the activities of ‘Operation Halt’ is only surgical and when they leave, the illegal miners come back.
Mr Jinapor said this in the Central Region after a meeting with the Central Regional Security Council in Cape Coast at the beginning of a two-day working visit to the region.
He said it is the determination of government to ensure that the natural resources of the country benefit everybody and therefore will not allow a few individuals to hold the entire nation to ransom.
The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan said the fight against illegal mining must not be politicized because the pollution caused to the country’s river bodies affects all.
