Parliament approves six ministers by consensus

Parliament has adopted three separate reports submitted by the Appointment Committee of Parliament on the President’s nominations for the ministerial appointment on 1st November, 2018.

The Ministers approved are Minister designate for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister designate for Gender, Children and social Protection, Cynthia Morrison and Minister designate for Brong Ahafo Region, Evans Bobie Opoku. The rest are Minister designate for Upper East Region, Paulina Tangoba Abayaga, Deputy Minister designate for Eastern Region, Samuel Nuertey Ayertey and Deputy Minister designate for Brong Ahafo region Martin Oti Gyarko.

In respect to the Minister designate for Gender, Children and social Protection, Cynthia Morrison on whether there is the need for a maternal Protection Convention to protect women on maternity, she informed the Committee that Maternal Protection Convention appreciates the fact that pregnancy and maternity are vulnerably periods.

“This vulnerability is especially compounded for the women and their families when the women are working mother.  Consequently, the expectant and nursing mothers need special protection to advert harm to them and that of their babies.”

She indicated that the mothers need sufficient time to deliver their babies, recover, and be able to nurse their children.

The six are now Ministers subject to presidential swearing-in to be performed by the President.
