The Ashanti Regional Security Council, REGSEC, has gathered intelligence that a group of students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, are planning to cause confusion and vandalize properties on campus on the eve of vacation which is Friday September 17, 2021.

According to the REGSEC, the planned disturbances are linked to the unhealthy rivalry between the University Hall and Unity Hall which led to the 3rd July, 2021 disturbances at the Great Hall.

A statement signed by Chairman of the REGSEC, Simon Osei Mensah who is also the Regional Minister has therefore warned all students to leave the KNUST Campus by mid-day of 18th September 2021 that is Saturday for their respective homes, apart from the foreign students and any other student permitted by the University Management to stay.

Further measures taken to forestall any breach of peace and security on Campus include the deployment of Security Operatives to protect life and property.

The statement reminded members of the University that the KNUST Campus remains a security zone as declared in November 2018.

It has again warned the students that anybody who indulges in acts of indiscipline and lawlessness would be treated in accordance with the criminal’s laws of Ghana.

They should therefore concentrate on their studies and abide by all rules and regulations.

The statement also entreated parents and guardians to advise their wards at the University to abstain from any acts of lawlessness since no offender will be spared the consequences.
