The German Government has donated 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covishield to Ghana to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donation follows the announcement by Chancellor Angela Merkel to President Akufo-Addo during the Compact with Africa Summit in Berlin on the 27th of August, 2021.
Germany has so far provided Ghana with more than 380,000 doses of vaccines.
German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull briefing the media at the Kotoka International Airport said the new 1.5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines would help increase the number of fully vaccinated people in Ghana.
He also lauded health authorities for their efforts to ensure the timely delivery of the vaccines to curb spread of the virus.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Health, Alhaji Asei Mahama Seini, said the new AstraZeneca vaccines donated by the German Government would support the national Covid-19 vaccination programme.
He commended the German government for the support given to the health sector and urged Ghanaians to get vaccinated.
Officials of the Ghana Health Service, Food and Drugs Authority, FDA, WHO, and UNICEF were at the Kotoka International Airport to receive the vaccines.
