Traditional Authorities in Tamale have pledged their unflinching support to the Northern Regional Security Council, REGSEC to deal with acts of lawlessness in the Metropolis.
They have subsequently cautioned residents to desist from behaviors that have the tendency to derail the peace in the area.
The Chiefs of Tamale, Gulkpe, Lamashegu and Choggu made the pledge when REGSEC led by the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, paid courtesy calls on them.
The visit, following the recent disturbances by some irate youth against Police brutality, was to solicit the Chiefs’ support in addressing lawlessness that is gaining notoriety in the Metropolis.
Some irate youth over the weekend took to the streets of the Metropolis rioting over the recent brutalities meted out to some residents over an alleged power theft. In the course of the act, the youth vandalised the Lamashegu Divisional Police Station and the VRA Office.
The youth smashed the glass doors of the Police Station as well as windscreens of some vehicles at the premises of the power distributor. REGSEC, led by the Northern Regional Minister in a bid to resolve the recent issue, visited some chiefs in the Metropolis to help bring an amicable solution to the impasse.
The Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Bawa Fuseini, promised to do his bit to help the situation to normalcy.
The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, called on the youth in Tamale to maintain the peace.
The Northern Regional Police Commander, COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga said those who perpetrated acts of vandalism would be dealt with according to the law.
Meanwhile, the Police is yet to make any arrest in connection with the September 25, 2021 disturbances.
