A Philanthropist, Sheikh Alhassan Ali Usman has responded to appeals from pupils of 2 Schools in the Juaben Municipality of Ashanti to provide their institutions with mechanized boreholes. The mechanized boreholes are to help reduce health issues associated with drinking unclean water, and also save time and resources involved in searching for water in other communities. It was often a herculean task for pupils of Yaw Nkrumah Basic and New Bomfa Methodist Junior High schools in the Juaben Municipality of Ashanti to fetch water for hand washing and for the school kitchen before the day’s lessons.
The nearest borehole is far away and this often results in the Pupils reporting late to class A situation authorities pointed out was affecting Pupil’s ability to concentrate during lessons, as they often reported tired after fetching water.
The schools are beneficiaries of the School Feeding Programme, which makes the provision of potable water very crucial, especially in this era of the Covid-19 pandemic An urgent appeal from the Pupils informed the decision of a Philanthropist, Sheikh Alhassan Ali Usman who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Abar Ertiwaa Construction Limited to provide the 2 Schools with a mechanized borehole each as a humanitarian gesture. Each cost GHC15 thousand Cedis. The giver was hopeful that the gesture would contribute to minimizing the stress and frustrations the Pupils encountered on a daily basis in search of water. Ami-durbar preceding the formal handing over of the mechanized borehole at Yaw Nkrumah Basic School, the Chiefs and elders of the Community expressed gratitude to the Philanthropist for the kind gesture. Headmaster of Yaw Nkrumah D/A Basic School, Frank Emmanuel Yeboah described the facility as a big relief to the school.
At the New Bomfa Methodist Junior High school, the Headmistress, Mrs. Sophia Kyei described the mechanized borehole as a more sustainable intervention to provide the school with potable water. The Philanthropist, Sheikh Alhassan Ali Usman explained the humanitarian gesture pointing out the need for Ghana to support young people in their quest to get educated.
