A Labour Analyst, Seth Abloso, says the Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s directive on the Ghana Card, could result in absenteeism among public sector workers.

He said the directive has created fear and panic within the workforce, and those without the card will be rushing to get registered due to the Controller’s December 1 deadline.

”The call is not appropriate because this directive from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department is causing a lot of fear and panic amongst public sector workers and what is likely to do is to create absenteeism because there are many persons who will go put to pursue the registration of Ghana Card because the time is very limited,” he said.

Mr. Abloso said the December 1 deadline by the Controller is seen as a ploy to cut off workers from the payroll because the government does not have money.

”If the Accountant General means well and in order not to create fear and panic, it should have been providing platforms on which the government workers will be uploading their information when they have their Ghana Card or do not have so that people don’t leave work to go and queue.”

“Salary is a debt owed and must be paid. You know the numbers you’re working with, why do you need a Ghana Card to prove they are your workers. This is too weird,” according to Mr. Ablosso.
