The Awoamefia of Anlo State in The Volta Region, Torgbui Sri III has stated that the division of The Volta Region is likely to decompose the existing peace and harmony in The Region.
According to him, “we strongly believe that the division of the Volta region has the potential of resulting in tribal conflicts among the peace-loving people of The Region rather than the rapid development they need”.
Addressing 2018 Hogbetsotso Festival at Anoga to climax the celebration, Torgbui Sri III called on the President to consider a wider consultation than “what possibly looks like a rushed agenda to divide peaceful and law abiding residents of the great Volta Region of Ghana”.
As such we hope the Chieftaincy Act 759 should be the guidelines for every decision taken in this regard, he added.
Reiterating the communiqué issued by the Congress of Chiefs few weeks ago Awoamefia add that, “although the Anlo state wants development, splitting the Volta Region into two is not the only option to see through The Region’s development”
On developmental issues, Torgbui reminded The President about the need for government to pay attention to their roads from Kome through Shime Traditional Areas that he said have been left in a deplorable state for decades, “construction of these roads would greatly reduce the current burden of transportation and post-harvest losses our people face annually”.
“Again, I wish to suggest that the establishment and equipping of skills-training centres such the Woe ICCES Vocational/Technical Training Centre (WIV’ITC) and support for skills-oriented jobs in our Regions, Districts and Communities will greatly ease the current pressure on The Central Government for the provision of job avenues.
He also raised concerns about alleged corruption involving some prominent personalities by making a “passionate appeal to your high office to follow through with the fight against corruption and the strengthening of the relevant institutions set up for this purpose. This will not only help protect the public purse but ensure scarce resources are applied prudently for the development of Ghana”.
For his part, The Awadada of Anlo State, Awadada Agbesi Awusu II appealed to The Government for support to promote development projects envisaged for The Area.
“Mr. President, although we have potential investments in Oil and Gas Exploration, Salt-Mining, Power Project Development, Scientific Fish-Farming and aquaculture activities, Industries and Scientific Farming Methods, among others, our area lack: serious employment opportunities”.
He asked Government to partner investors in some of the above-mentioned businesses for the benefit of The Youth who he noted that, after education they migrate to look for jobs in major towns and cities and all over the globe instead of remaining to develop their home areas.
The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi used the occasion to urge Chiefs and Traditional rulers to channel their grievances through appropriate quarters for resolution.
He praised the Government for successfully implementation of free SHS and the recent NABCO recruitment to reduce the growing unemployed graduates.
He was quick to remind the Chiefs that, The Government has created Anlo District from Keta Municipality with its headquarters at Anloga.
This year’s festival chaired by Ambassador Victor Gbeho focused on shoring up our cultural capital: Uniting in commonwealth and resolved, has witnessed personalities like, Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, former Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, current Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, A. S. K. Bagbin, the The President of the National House of Chiefs and the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and President of Asogli Traditional Area Togbe Afede XIV, Some Members of Parliament and MMDCEs.

Better late than never and delay defeats equity. whatever the case one day the creation or split of a separate region is eminent. and a stitch in time saves nine
