The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have commenced investigations into an incident where the Suame Police Command in the Ashanti Region was attacked by armed military officers following the arrest of a soldier in civilian uniform riding an unlicensed motorcycle by the Suame police.
A statement issued in Accra and jointly signed by the Acting Director General of Public affairs at the Police Headquarters, ACP Kwesi Ofori and the Acting Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, Commander Andy La Anyane, said anyone found culpable after investigations, will be dealt with administratively.
The statement said the two security institutions are committed to a harmonious relationship and will not condone any proven act of wrongdoing by personnel.
It assured the public of the unflinching commitment of the two security institutions to peace, security and harmony in the Country. Currently, an armed police re-enforcement team from the Ashanti Regional Police Command has been deployed to the Suame Police station to maintain law and order.
The incident, according to reports, created some chaotic scenes in the area with residents living in fear of what could happen next.
