Convener of the “Fixing the Country” Movement, Ernest Owusu Bempah, has assured Ghanaians that the Akufo-Addo led- government has not abandoned or stopped payment for the ongoing E-Block projects started by the Mahama administration.
At a News Conference in Accra, Mr. Owusu Bempah cited an information from the Ministry of Education which suggested that the Mahama administration awarded a GHC900 million contract for the E-block schools but failed to pay the contractors.
He said the Akufo-Addo administration intervened and paid the debts, for the completion of the projects to facilitate the government’s free SHS programme. He added that 31 new schools have been constructed bringing the total number of completed projects to 60 which are currently in use.
“The point must be made clear that before the inception of the Akufo-Addo government, only 29 E-block schools had been completed and operational with the rest either at ground level or not constructed. It took the Akufo-Addo government to pay the debts to ensure none of the schools are abandoned but completed for all school children to benefit from the government free SHS programme”.
Mr. Owusu Bempah, refuted claims that the NPP government has abandoned the Volta Region in terms of developmental projects. He said the party has initiated over 17- thousand infrastructural projects in the region, with eight thousand, seven hundred and forty-six completed in the various sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, education and health.
‘’ President Akufo Addo made a promise to develop the country, improve the economy and ensure prosperity to Ghanaians and the Volta Region is no exception. It is therefore misleading and very disingenuous for anyone to claim that the NPP has abandoned the Volta Region in terms of development”, Mr. Owusu Bempah added.
Director of Operations of the “Fixing the Country” Movement, Hopeson Adoye, said the Akufo-Addo government will not relent in its efforts to accelerate the completion of development projects.
