Government, through the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, GTEC, is in the process of rolling out a Centralized Application Processes Service dubbed CAPS, aimed at providing a more convenient and easy application and processes of admissions into Universities.
This module is expected to provide accurate enrollment data to support the development intervention drive of the government towards tertiary education.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Director-General of GTEC, Dr. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, who represented the Minister of Education, at the 22nd Congress of the University for Development Studies, UDS, in Tamale. Joyce Kantam Kolamong reports that the 22nd Congregation of the University brought together graduating students from the four campuses of the University.
It was held through a blend of face-to-face and virtual mode due to COVID 19.
The event was also attended by the Governing Council of the University, Vice and Pro Vice Chancellors, officials of sister Universities and Members of Convocation.
The Deputy Director-General of GTEC, Dr Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, said the Centralized Application Processes Service, CAPS, will improve the knowledge of admission processes as well as inform and guide applicant’s choice of programmes.
”The admissions under CAPS will not be a computerised one but will be purely done and managed by the University,” he explained.
The Vice Chancellor of UDS, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, said in its quest to satisfy the growing demand for higher education, the University has designed new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. To this end, he noted, that the new programmes are currently in the process of receiving approval and accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. Professor Teye was hopeful the programmes will go through the accreditation process successfully and be introduced in the 2022/2023 academic year.
A total of 7,293 students graduated this year. Out of this number, 154 are postgraduates with 19 in PhDs in various disciplines. Awards were given to the best graduating students from the various disciplines.
