The Volta Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority, (FDA) in collaboration with the Volta Regional Police Command has arrested a 77-year-old man, Amoatwor Harrison for posing as a Medical Doctor at Peki in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region. According to the FDA the activities of Mr. Harrison are contrary to the Public Health Act, and also put people’s health at risk.
According to the Volta Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority, the activities of Mr. Harrison have been on their radar for some time now.
So upon picking up intelligence on his activities and whereabouts, officers of the authority in collaboration with the drug unit of the Volta regional command, effected his arrest. Items retrieved from his house after a search include medical equipment and a variety of drugs, some of which may fail safety standards.
Briefing Journalists in Ho, the Volta Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority, Gordon Akurugu, said the operation and activities of Mr. Harrison does not conform to the country’s Public Health Act and has been perpetuating an illegality at the expense of the Health Safety of the Public.
He gave the assurance that the FDA is committed to ensuring Public Health Safety in the region, and urged the public to be wary of such characters.
Investigations have commenced into the operations of Mr. Harrison after which he will be processed for Court.
