Executive Director of the Africa Center for Revenue Mobilisation, Geoffrey Ocansey said the E- levy announced by the Finance Minister in the Budget is a retrogressive tax which will further burden the poor.
“As much as government wants to rake in more revenue, it must consider ways of making the rich pay more”.
Speaking to GBC News, Mr Ocansey said the government could have reduced Road Toll instead of abolishing it.

Clearing Agents at the Tema Port say the government should go back to the old way of charging import duties and scrap the benchmark value since it does not benefit the final consumer. They made the suggestion in an interview with GBC News at the Tema Port in reaction to the 2022 Budget. For now, the proposal to scrap the benchmark value has created tension between the government and industry players.
Peasant Farmers speak.
Head of Programmes for the Peasant Farmers Association, Charles Nyaaba has lauded the government for paying heed to their proposals for the 2022 Budget. Speaking to GBC News, he said their concern for completion of projects in the sector were captured. He was however quick to bemoan the reduction in the budgetary allocation to the sector. Mr. Nyaaba said he fears, “the slash in the allocation will wane the commitment to developing agriculture”.
