The Chiefs and people of Yilo Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, have celebrated their annual Kloyosikplemi festival at Somanya. It is celebrated to reflect on their migration from Klo Mountain to their present location. The festival is also for family reunion and raising funds for developmental projects. It was on the theme “Come Let Us Build”. Michael Kenetey reports that the Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs, Ebenezer Kojo Kum speaking during a durbar to climax the festival advised Traditional Authorities to resolve all chieftaincy disputes to foster development.
He said Ghana can develop rapidly if there is unity among the people. Mr. Kum said the chieftaincy institution is very important and the government will continue to collaborate with Chiefs to develop the country.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a message, presented by the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong noted that the government is aware of the poor road network in the Yilo Krobo Municipality and is taking measures to address it.
Also, the Municipal Hospital has been successfully completed and will soon be inaugurated to promote quality health care delivery. The Konor of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Kpeteple Nuer Anorbaa Sasraku appealed to the government fulfil all promises made to them to bring the needed development.
He also appealed to the government to inaugurate the hospital before the end of the year to improve health care delivery in the Municipality. Nene Sasraku urged politicians not to only visit their electorate only during elections.
”Pay regular visits to them to know their needs”, he emphasized. He spoke against the indiscriminate sale of land, calling for an end to the practice.
A former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko urged all Krobos to unite and contribute to the development of the area.
