Moves to make Ghana ”Technology Hub” in Africa

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has hinted at the government’s decision to establish a Technology and Innovation Park that will help deepen the country’s quest to become a technology Hub in the Sub region.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Ghana Digital Innovation Week in Accra, Vice President Bawumia said talks have begun with key players in Israel and Germany to assist Ghana in that regard. He said the government is committed to transforming the economy through digitalization and strong institutions adding that it is time to take a critical look at the innovation aspect of digitization, calling on stakeholders to share ideas to build an effective ecosystem on the African Continent.

Mercy Darko reports that the Ghana Digital Innovation Week was initiated in 2019 in line with the Trilateral Cooperation among Ghana, Germany and Israel, with local ecosystem partners initiated to create synergies towards a more collaborative and inclusive ecosystem for Ghana’s innovation and development.

This follows the massive improvement in the country’s digital drive with the introduction of various innovative platforms to ease the way of doing things in the country. The celebration of the Digital and Innovation Week, therefore, seeks to consolidate the gains, deepen efforts to potential in innovating solutions that will address critical needs, and at the same time create economic opportunities for citizens.

Vice President Bawumia said Ghana’s Digital Innovation Week seeks to celebrate achievements of Ghana’s digital innovation ecosystem and build momentum towards a common vision for its future development.

”Countries that have excelled, leveraged on technology and innovation to grow their economies”, he said.

The Minister of Environment, Science Technology and Innovation, Kwaku Afriyie said the Ministry is collaborating with other stakeholders to develop the innovation ecosystem.
The German Ambassador to Ghana Daniel Krull in a remark commended Ghana for the giant strides made in the digital space.

The week-long event is under the auspices of the Office of the Vice President with support from the German Technical Cooperation, GIZ and Israel.

It’s on the theme, ”Mobilising Collective Action and Investment to Catalyse Growth in Ghana’s Digital Innovation Ecosystem”.

  1. This Digital innovations put in place by Dr Bawumia is really moving the country very far and truth be told it has really eased things in the country. Dr Bawumia should continue his good works and strengthen the digital innovations to make Ghana one of the Best countries in Digitilization
