One of the biggest lessons from the coronavirus pandemic was application of technology for teaching and learning. Online or virtual learning became the new education normal. This has brought to the fore the need for students to be properly oriented in their interface with digital learning.
The British Council has rolled out a project geared towards equipping teacher trainees with relevant tools to impart to basic school pupils, online learning skills in English.
The “Skills for Success” project is a teacher training programme aimed at providing student teachers with the knowledge and skills to develop improved digital literacy and factual writing skills in young learners. Chikodi Onemerela is the Acting Country Director of the British Council, implementers of the project.
Senior Regional Partnerships Manager for sub Saharan Africa, Wikimedia Foundation, Rudolph Ampofo gave an overview of the extent to which Wikipedia has collaborated with teachers to enhance teaching and learning in the country.
The “Skills for Success” project is being piloted in Ghana for the next 16 months before its replication in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.
It is in partnership with Wikimedia Foundation and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
