Konor of Agortime, Nene Nuer Keteku laid to rest

The late Konor or Paramount Chief of Agortime Traditional Area, in the Agortime Ziope District of the Volta Region, Nene Nuer Keteku has been laid to rest.

Scores of citizens, sympathizers and dignitaries thronged Kpetoe during his funeral to pay their last respects to the Late Paramount Chief whose reign spanned 58 years.

He is credited for being pivotal in championing development for nearly six decades and he is praised for cementing peace and unity among his people who are part of the Dangbe ethnic groupings of the country.

Tributes from the Chiefs and people of Agortime hailed him for his sterling leadership style and achievements such as the institution of the annual Kente Festival, lobbying for the creation of the Agortime Ziope District, establishment of schools in the 37 Communities in the traditional area among others.

The late Nene Nuer Keteku who was known in private life as Wisdom Senyo Akuffo, was installed as Konor of Agortime in 1962.

He was an Educationist and contributed to tourism development in the Volta Region with specific interest in the Kente industry, which earned him UNESCO’s Custodian of Ewe Kente Cloth Award.

Nene Keteku also received a Gold Plate Award from the Ghana Revenue Authority for being a development partner in trade and industry.

He passed on, 4th June 2020, aged 76.
