Gambia’s Information Dept. & GBC discuss how to leverage on RTI Bill

As part of efforts to establish a strong foundation for democratic renewal, the Department of Information in Gambia says access to information and a strong media is crucial to this change. This has necessitated the call by the Department to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to share its experience on how the Corporation is leveraging on the Right to Information Bill to run its activities.

The Programme Manager of Freedom of Expression at the Media Foundation for West Africa Muheeb Saeed who led the delegation from Gambia to pay a courtesy call on the Director-General of GBC says the move is a learning and sharing mission that the Gambians are embarking upon, hoping for a fruitful exchange of knowledge sharing.

Director-General of GBC Professor Amin Alhassan said the Corporation has not fully tested the RTI in its ecosystem. He shared the experience and how GBC runs its activities.

Deputy Director of the Department of Information in Gambia Ebrima Njie shared how the Gambian media operates and the political interference hindering the freedom of the Media activities.
