The Interim Management Committee of the Apostle Revelation Society, says as part of the national fight against the spread of coronavirus, it has suspended this year’s national celebration of its 82nd Anniversary slated for 24TH TO 31ST of this month at the international headquarters at Tadzewu Gbedzi, in the Volta Region.
This is in view of the President’s directive, for all religious celebrations to be manageable to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus, particularly, the fast-spreading omicron variant.
A statement issued by the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee-(IMC) Brigadier-General, Apostle A. N. Tehn Addy, said the communal nature of the gathering makes the Tadzewu township particularly vulnerable to the spread of Covid-19 especially the omicron variant during the anniversary celebrations.
It said looking at the membership of about 80,000 expected from across the country, and around the world, leadership cannot guarantee Covid vaccination coverage of one-quarter of the entire membership. It added that due to high vaccine hesitancy, it will be disastrous converging on Tadzewu, Gbedzi for the celebration.
The statement acknowledged that with the large crowd, providing handwashing facilities like soap and regular running water, mounting Alcohol based hand sanitizing dispensers at vantage points in the entire township would not be feasible, for the seven-day period.
The statement said keeping reasonable social distancing of members of at least 1 meter apart during the celebration is equally impossible.
For the celebration at the regional level, the statement urged the leaders to mark the celebration for a four-day period from Friday 24th- Sunday 26th and Friday 31st December.
It said as a law abiding church, all members and Regional Superintendents should adhere to the directives in these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
