The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, has held a send off ceremony for its board members. The ceremony was to acknowledge the members for their dedication and hard work to the Corporation.
For a long time in history, these few years can be described as those which have experienced unity among management, board members and the union working together to achieve the new GBC today.
This unity has also resulted in the Corporation exceeding its target, rebranding certain programs, and seeing good and interesting content on the various GBC’s channels. It is against this backdrop that the management thought it wise to appreciate the efforts put in by the board members.
In an open remark the Director General of the Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan said their contributions towards the Corporation have been enormous. He was quick to add that he wished a good number of them would be maintained so there can be continuity of what they started together.
“Two years ago we were here for the inaugural ceremony and I must say you have met our expectations. In fact they have exceeded our expectations. We are looking forward and praying that a good number of them will be retained in the incoming board so that continuity will not only be in reports but will be something they can remember”.
The Board Chairman for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Professor Emmanuel Adow Obeng, entreated management and other stakeholders to work together no matter the challenges they encountered.
He said the work done so far at the Corporation cannot be compared to any media organization.
Professor Obeng added that once there is continuing support from each other then he can boldly say this is indeed the beginning of a new GBC.
“I know there are some challenges but I know that the way you have begun I pray you continue to work together as a team so that together you lead your staff to achieve the goals which have been set for GBC. There is no private media house in this country that can compete with GBC if you put your heart into it”.
Taking his turn, Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo cautioned Management and other stakeholders of the Corporation to avoid partisan politics in their respective offices.
Mr. Ayeboafo said as a Corporation and a professional media entity they should not allow themselves to be misused by other people regardless of their status in society. He said working together as a team can push the Corporation to higher heights.
“The partisan that prevails within your ranks is too much but it is not in the interest of any of you. Any one of you who wants to join politics let them resign and go and join politics and stand election and be voted for. If you work at GBC know that it is because of GBC, that is why you are there if we want GBC to soar, it can only soar out of our collective work but if we under cut each other then GBC will be an eagle that cannot fly because it’s wings would have been clipped”.
Speaker after Speaker at the ceremony commended GBC for a good work done so far that is taking the media space by storm with their new innovative programs and Channels.
The Board members were each given customized GBC flasks, dairy, citations, key holders, a 55-inch smart television set and a medal.
One of the Board members Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai passed on during his tenure, hence a minute’s silence was observed in his memory.
