Telecommunication companies have ramped up technical logistics to improve their services towards the ongoing SIM Card re-registration. The mobile network Operators will, from today, use an updated version of the app being used for the re-registration, increase the number of smartphones being used, and increase the number of registration Centers to include distributors, all retail outlets, as well as some selected agents.
This move is intended to ease congestion and long hours spent at the Centers by mobile phone users.
CEO of the Chamber of Telecommunications, Ken Ashigbe who made this known to GBC News said the Chamber, NCA and the Telcos are determined to make the re-registration process easier for customers.
Over the past few weeks, the re-registration has been characterized by long queues and other challenges at the various registration centers. This prompted concern from the public leading to the NCA to fashion out measures to address the problem.
Mr Ken Ashigbey noted while speaking virtually on GTV Breakfast January 10, 2022 that the new measures to decongest the registration Centers stems from an assessment of the events over the past weeks.
”We are asking all our agents to download the latest update, hopefully that will be able to resolve the challenge for us”.
Mr. Ashigbey further stated that institutional registration has also started to ease the congestion at the Centers.”Some of these things will take time to do the technology once we are hoping that with the update that has been done it will be able to improve speed at which the SIM registration is done, but in terms of the number of Centers that has been done we need to increase and wrap up the communications, education and let people know that there are other places apart from the Telecoms Offices that you can go to but anywhere that they go to for these retail shops and distributors where they see SIM Card registration done there it means they will be able to go there some of these will take a bit of time”.
”Another thing that our members are doing is the fact that you know that most of us the workers of the telecoms have smartphones. They in the past were people not primarily on duty for SIM registration, but the plan is to enable them do some of the registration if they also do that as well it will be the number of people that have to go to these Centers and so then it also reduce the queues that we see”, Mr. Ashigbey noted.
