The Kaneshie District Court trying the case in which the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu is charged for unlawfully blocking a public road and the destruction of public property, could not sit on the case Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
This is because the Magistrate, Oheneba Kuffour was unavailable for hearing. When the case was called for hearing this morning, the parties were informed that, Magistrate was on his annual leave.
The Member of Parliament for Madina is accused of unlawfully blocking public roads and causing destruction to public property during a protest by his Constituents.
Mr. Sosu in October 2021, led some of his Constituents in a demonstration against bad roads.
During the protest, some of the protesters allegedly blocked roads, burnt tyres and destroyed some public property, which the police pronounced unlawful acts. The Police on a number of occasions invited the MP for questioning, but he failed to show up.
The Service on November 8, 2021, secured a criminal summons for Mr. Sosu to appear in Court. The MP, however, missed the court date because he was out of the country.
Mr Sosu, failed to make two other Court dates which led to the Kaneshie District Court Presiding over Ohene Kuffour, issuing a bench warrant for his arrest on Monday November 29, 2021. The Court however on Wednesday December 1, 2021 vacated the warrant for arrest after Lawyers for the lawmaker finally produced him for the Court in the company of some big wigs in the NDC, including the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, to justify the MP’s absence in court.
