2021 AFCON host nation, Cameroon, have been cautioned against underrating tournament minnows Comoros in the round of 16.
The tournament debutantes secured their place in the next stage despite losing two of their opening group games – against Gabon and Morocco.
The 869,595-populated country advanced as one of the best ranked third-placed teams from the group stages finishing above Sierra Leone and Sudan.
However, their victory over the Black Stars last Tuesday has left many stunned and, British commentator Michael Potter has cautioned Cameroon ahead of Monday’s clash in Limbe.
“We know Comoros can prove people wrong. Cameroon would probably be happy with that draw. But, as you said, the game of the round of 16 is the one between the Ivory Coast vs Egypt,” he told GTV Sports+ AFCON host Kwabena Yeboah.
Comoros is participating in the AFCON tournament for the first time in the country’s history and scored their first-ever goal at the competition against the Black Stars during last Tuesday’s clash in Garoua.
Cameroon reached the last 16 stage, having qualified as winners of Group A – a group that featured Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and Ethiopia.
