The National Youth Authority, NYA is to recruit 100,000 young Ghanaians as volunteers to formalize the activities of youth volunteer groups.
The program is aimed at making the youth acquire skills and experience. Chief Executive Officer of NYA, Pius Enam Hadzide made this known when he led a delegation of the management of the Authority to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pay a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu.
The National Youth Authority exists to provide an environment for youth participation in socio-cultural-economic and political development using appropriate technology and highly-motivated professionals. Throughout the world today, the youth are recognized as the most important human capital.
Efforts at enhancing the overall development of young people are therefore considered an important part of the national development agenda. It is in light of this that the management of NYA led by its new Chief Executive Officer Pius Enam Hadzide called on His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to highlight a new policy yet to be launched in Kumasi.
The programme is christened ”National Youth Volunteers Programme”. The Authority requested the Asantehene’s Guidance and support in the rollout of the project. The Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide announced that the strategy will benefit an estimated 100,000 young Ghanaians in volunteering roles across various sectors in the short to medium term.
The Asantehene commended the initiative and pledged support towards the actualization of the National Youth Volunteers Programme.
He advised the authority to ”live beyond reproach in order to stand the test of time in addressing issues confronting the youth”
The ”National Youth Volunteers Programme” is expected to help the youth to build their capacities through volunteering in social work to enable them to find career opportunities and enrich their curriculum vitae.
The aim is to provide young people with a competitive advantage in the world of work.
