The Ghana Federation of Labour, GFL, is appealing to the government to endeavour to comply with Section 97 of the Labour Act 2003, Act 651, to build trust and confidence in the process of negotiations pertaining to the striking University Lecturers.
This according to the GFL, will curtail the incessant public sector strikes which negatively affect the economy and the people.
A statement signed by the Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson, said the Federation has been monitoring with grave concern the adamant approach to resolving Labour agitations among the University teachers in spite of the commitments made last year to give government the room to honour it’s pledge to address their grievances.
It said the “development especially in the wake of the already negative impact of COVID-19 on smooth academic work is much worrying”.
The nationwide strike by the Public Universities appears to be in it’s thirds week, thus the GFL is well informed of the concerns of parents who have invested resources in this difficult times to pay school fees, accommodation and feeding of their wards and have now been left to their fate on campuses.
The crisis is said to have been aggravated by public pronouncements. GFL wants the government to act swiftly for the good all.
