The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has reiterated government’s commitment in ensuring that Volta Aluminium Company, VALCO becomes the finest smelter worldwide. He said although this realization will not come easy, it can be possible through hard work and zeal. Mr Jinapor said this when he paid a working visit to VALCO in Tema to inspect progress made so far through the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Corporation to help revamp it.

The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Industry is an institution under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, charged with the mandate to develop Ghana’s Aluminium sector. President Akufo Addo, in September last year, launched the four projects of the Integrated Aluminium Industry. These include the expansion of the Mines at Awaso and the construction of a Refinery. Two Mines are being built at Nyinahin-Mpasaaso with a Refinery and another Mine and a Refinery in Kyebi. The project also includes the Modernization of the VALCO smelter in Tema to improve its efficiency and increase capacity.

Mr. Jinapor together with his entourage from the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Industry and Board Members of VALCO toured the facility’s Carbon Plant, Cell Lines, Cast House, Technical Quality Assurance, Maintenance Shops and the Dock. Mr. Jinapor said VALCO will be revamped and retooled to attract investors. He said the Ministry will soon table its findings before Parliament for approval for the take-off of the rebirth of the company.
