Former President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to back the FA in the recruitment of coaches for the national teams, especially the Black Stars. He is against the phenomenon of the government forcing its prefered choice in coaches down the throat of the FA.
This he says is crucial to the success of the Black Stars who have gone trophyless for 4 decades. Mr Nyantakyi made the point on GTVSports+ while discussing the issue of interference by the government in the activities of the FA specifically in the area of coach selection.
“Government should play their role and then the FA also play their role”, he said while summarising it in the local Parlance “obiaa ndi ne lane mo”(stay on what concerns you),
Mr Nyantakyi said “in Africa governments are in charge of infrastructure and in our case over 99% of sporting facilities are owned by the government so football will not thrive outside the realm of government and so it is important that there is a good relationship between government and the FA.
Mr Nyantakyi went on to state that “it lies within the powers of the FA to appoint a coach for the Black Stars. No coach will sign an employment agreement with the government, it has to be done by the Ghana Football Association, because, when there is a breach, the only place to seek redress is FIFA or the CAS and the government will not be recognised as a party to such a case”, he opined.
