Former Dean of the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, says the Ghanaian media is confronted with a crisis of trust. This according to her is caused by the lack of self-regulation to clamp down on activities of charlatans in the media space. Professor Gadzepko was speaking in Accra at a forum on the 2022 World Radio Day which focused on Radio and Trust, organized by the Ghana Community Radio.

She identified the lack of regulation for the broadcasting industry owing to the absence of the broadcasting law. This she said is a contributory factor to such excesses.

Professor Gadzekpo noted that as a remedial measure, the media must build support and credibility within communities they operate.

UNESCO Country Representative, Abdourahamane Diallo said freedom of expression is a fundamental right which must not be taken for granted. He asked the government to ensure provisions on free speech are applied to the latter.

Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission, George Sarpong, expressed concerns about activism, saying it requires critical attention.
