On the day of International Women’s Day, Abantu for Development, a women’s rights organisation is concerned about the direct effect of climate change on women, especially in the midst of covid-19.

According to Abantu, extreme weather conditions coupled with other societal factors are limiting opportunities for women for better livelihoods. Executive Director of Abantu for Development, Dr Rose Mensah Kutin was speaking to GBCNEWS’ Doreen Ampofo as the world marks International Women’s Day which is focusing on breaking the bias. Dr.Mensah Kutin called for strategies to reduce such biases and burdens on women.

The year 2022 is pivotal to the UN as it focuses its activities on achieving gender equality in the context of climate change, environmental disaster, and risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century.

On the subject, Dr Mensah Kutin celebrated women and girls who are taking up roles intended for men and also leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response.
