The Catholic Association of Media Practitioners- Ghana, CAMP-G, has launched a documentary entitled “Life beyond limbs”. The 15 minutes documentary was sponsored by SIGNIS in collaboration with the Orthopedic training centre of Nsawam. It portrays the cruel treatment meted out to children with disabilities and the spiritual misinterpretation of such disabilities. It further sensitizes the public on the strong abilities of persons living with disabilities and the need to ensure their inclusion in national development.
Launching the documentary in Accra, Rev. Father Prince Adelaayitar, who is the Notary of Accra Ecclesiarical Tribunal, observed that people with disabilities are endowed with innate talents that make them overcome their limitations and can contribute to national development.
”Society needs to make provision for them and help them to discover their gifts so that they will be able to take care of themselves because God’s grace is sufficient”, he said.
Father Adelaayitar hoped the documentary will impact viewers and the public, in general, to show love to our brothers and sisters who are physically challenged.
President of CAMP-G, Mrs. Victoria Luguey, said the documentary aims to disabuse the mentality of the public about the causes of disabilities and highlight the abilities of people living with disabilities, and what they can achieve when given the opportunity.
A Head Teacher of the basic school at the Orthopedic Training Centre, who is physically challenged, reiterated the saying that disability is not inability and stressed that people with disabilities must be seen as citizens of the country who can effectively contribute to national development.
In a message via Zoom from Lome, Togo, President of the African Catholic Union of the Press, Charles Ayetan, observed that the documentary shows a path of self-acceptance, hope and perseverance of people living with disabilities. He urged society to show commitment by supporting without stigmatizing people living with disabilities.
