GES Internal Auditors seek more knowledge in Public resource accountability

Members of the Association of Ghana Education Service Internal Auditors have been urged to continuously update and improve upon their competencies to adequately manage and account for public resources. Deputy Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Thomas Thompson-Ayei indicated that audit infractions at the Ghana Education Service have been identified in the Auditor-General’s reports to Parliament over the past few years.

He has therefore encouraged members to adopt an unbiased mental attitude in the execution of their duties. He said this at the opening of a three-day Conference of the Association’s 12th annual National Workshop in Ho.

 

The three-day National Workshop and Conference, which is on the theme: improving Ghana Education Service Management Efficiency in Covid-19 era, the role of the Internal Auditor seeks to sharpen the skills and knowledge of participants on various topics and update them on current internal audit issues. It will also allow participants to interact, share ideas and learn new things with regards to their ethical and professional standards.

The Deputy Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Thomas Thompson-Ayei said his outfit has submitted a proposal to Government to consolidate public internal audit resources under the Agency. He said when this is considered by the Government and the Internal Audit Service Act is passed, all public sector internal Auditors will be under the control of the Internal Audit Agency to improve upon the independence of internal function and objectives of the Internal Auditors.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa entreated the internal Auditors to go about their duties without fear or favour and urged management of GES to support and cooperate with them without any interference.

The Chief Internal Auditor, Rev. Bismark Akandi appealed to the Director-General of GES and other stakeholders to provide them with relevant equipment to enhance their performance.
