Ghanaian Artistes, Kelvyn Boy and DJ Nektunez earn a spot on Billboard’s new top 50 Afrobeats Chart.
On Tuesday, March 29, 2022 Billboard launched its very own Afrobeats Songs Chart.
The chart ranks the 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States.
Music producer Nektunez ranked number seven on the list with his hit song ‘Amenor Amapiano’ featuring Goya Menor.
Also making the list is Afrobeats singer Kelvyn Boy with his song “Down Flat’, which is currently the most popular song in the country, debuting at number 22.
Nektunez and Kelvyn Boy are the only Ghanaians listed on the chart after its launch.
However, majority of the songs are by Nigerian artistes including CKay’s “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” topping the chart as the number one Afrobeats song in the US. The song was originally released in 2019 and has recently been boosted by a string of international remixes as a result of its virality on TikTok.
Other Afrobeats Songs that made it to the top five are Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran’s “Peru,” at Number two; Wizkid’s “Essence,” featuring Justin Bieber and Tems, at Number. Three; Omah Lay and Bieber’s “Attention,” at Number four; and Tems’ “Free Mind,” at Number five.
The U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart is published weekly by Billboard. The songs that make it to the chart is been measured by the number of downloads, streams, leading audio and video music services from top music retailers.
