Parliament has gone into recess. Closing the first Meeting of the Second Session of the Eighth Parliament, Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah said the meeting saw one of the greatest tests to the country’s democracy as a new Constitutional interpretation was given to age long-held practices. He said despite all these, the House has ended its first Meeting this year stronger.
He called on the MPs to ensure they keep in touch with their Constituents during the break. Mr. Asiamah made the remarks on behalf of the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.
The Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin on behalf of the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the House rose to the occasion this time around conducting its business with decorum and respect to each other’s view. He expressed worry about the slow pace of work that took a long time to deliberate due to the issue of quorum.
On behalf of the Minority Leader Haruna Idrissu, the Minority Whip, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka thanked his colleagues, staff of Parliament and the Press Corps for a successful meeting.
